Born in Cairo\, Egypt\, he emigrated with his family to Toronto\, Canada\, in 1984\, where he completed his studies in biological science. He entered monastic life on January 22\, 1995\, and was consecrated a bishop on November 16\, 1999\, having formerly served as a general bishop in New England under the Coptic Orthodox Archdiocese of North America.
