Traiza is a mother of two: Philo, who is 10, and Phrogina, who is 12. Five years ago, Tariza found herself at a crossroads, seeking a meaningful way to bring income to help her family financially and make a difference in the lives of others. She applied for a job at The Shepherd and Mother of Light jeans factory that was opened a few blocks from her house in the bustling city of Al Obour.
Although she had little sewing knowledge, she started enthusiastically and was eager to learn.
The factory productions have a unique destination for the less fortunate kids in Upper Egypt. These denims don’t just provide pants; they symbolize a promise of pure joy for those who need it the most.
The factory produces 18,000 pants in different sizes and styles to be distributed to SML children during Christmas, Easter, and before the school year starts.
Traiza has proven to be a quick learner. Within one year, she learned to work on different machines and supervised 24 workers.
Before the feasts, the factory gets so busy with big orders: “When I look at the final products, I can’t help but wonder who will be wearing these pants. I usually smile because I know it will make the children happy to receive new clothes for the feast.”
As we reflect on the past five years, it’s evident that Traiza has inspired hope. Her story serves as a reminder that even in the most unexpected places, ordinary people can create
extraordinary change.
